From Byte Digital, the official company wiki and knowledge base

Byte connects marketing reports with the decisions clients need to make. Reporting follows campaign activity through to enquiries, assessments, sales or participation, with clear definitions and practical recommendations.

Agree the definitions

Measure Definition Role in reporting
Impressions Times content was displayed Advertising exposure
Reach People or accounts reached within the platform's definition Audience coverage within that platform
Clicks Recorded link interactions Movement towards the destination
Enquiries Recorded contact Initial interest
Qualified enquiries Contacts meeting agreed criteria Relevant commercial opportunities
Sales or admissions Confirmed business or operational outcomes Commercial progression

Each measure carries its platform, reporting period, definition and source. Data awaiting confirmation is identified separately from confirmed totals.

Measurement onboarding

Before relying on existing reports, map each important business action to its recorded event and reporting destination. For an enquiry, identify whether the event represents a submitted form, a click on a telephone link or a confirmed conversation. For a purchase, identify which order record supplies the value and how repeated events are recognised.

Document the event name, trigger, source system, value definition and known exclusions. Where several tracking implementations are present, check whether they describe separate actions or repeat the same action. Configuration records and end-to-end checks document both the setup and its operation.

Agreed test cases verify the tracking journey. Test activity is recorded separately from customer performance. Reconciliation explains differences between business records and platform reports, including attribution, timing and event definitions.

Attribution and overlap

People discover businesses through several channels, devices and conversations. Platform attribution assigns credit using a defined model and reporting window.

Combined audience reporting uses deduplicated reach where the platform provides it. Separate platform totals retain their individual scope, keeping audience coverage clear.

Commercial measures

Cost per enquiry divides relevant spend by recorded enquiries. Cost per qualified enquiry uses the subset meeting agreed criteria. Matching periods, spend definitions and qualification criteria make comparisons useful.

ROAS compares attributed revenue with advertising spend. ROI compares net return with the investment, using an agreed scope of costs. Margin, fulfilment costs, returns and other relevant costs provide the context for profitability.

Client feedback and progression

Enquiry categories connect marketing reports with the team's commercial feedback. Categories cover contact purpose, location, service fit, timing, next step and outcome.

A defined feedback process records the date and source of updates. Active enquiries remain distinct from completed decisions, reflecting the time customers take to progress.

Care-specific applications are explained in home care marketing and care home marketing. Clinical and care-management information stays within the provider's approved operational systems.

Reporting and recommendations

A useful report states the objective, dates, evidence, measurement scope, interpretation and next action. Compare equivalent definitions and periods. Explain changes in tracking or consent coverage that affect comparability. Include the decision that the evidence supports and what additional evidence would change that decision.

Agree a reporting schedule that fits the engagement, campaign duration and decisions the client needs to make. A report explains the results and the next actions. The meeting or report frequency, delivery format and people involved belong in the working agreement.

Report element Questions to answer
Objective and period What was the work intended to achieve, and over which dates?
Activity and investment What ran or changed, and what spend is included?
Outcomes and quality Which business actions were recorded, and how suitable were they?
Interpretation What does the evidence suggest, and what further information would support the next decision?
Recommendations What change is recommended, why, and how is its effect measured?
Action ownership Who approves or completes each action, and what is the next review point?

Give recommendations a status such as proposed, approved, in progress or completed. Keep budget increases, new services and public changes distinguishable from routine analysis so the client can see what needs a decision. Revisit previous recommendations in the next review: state what happened after implementation, and the next delivery step.

Campaign learning

The NHS preconception campaign shows how website quiz activity and channel reporting inform campaign evaluation. The Alltype project explores online sales alongside physical-depot objectives.

Lead-generation tracking and validation

Byte's conversion tracking guide connects advertising with meaningful enquiry stages. Successful forms, connected calls, qualified enquiries and booked appointments each have a clear definition. Supporting interactions, such as telephone-link clicks and downloads, provide additional journey information.

Validation follows the enquiry from the website to its destination and reporting system. Checks cover successful submission, validation errors, repeated actions and matching definitions across reporting tools. Lead-quality feedback then connects campaign decisions with the services, locations and opportunities the business can support.

For council consultation campaigns, confirmed survey submissions provide a direct response measure. The New Forest campaign reported 1,176 confirmed submissions at £0.95 media cost per response. For healthcare lead generation, the dental planning toolkit separates enquiry, qualification, booking, attendance and treatment stages.
