Gareth Allen is the founder of Byte Digital. He has worked in design and marketing since 1997, with experience spanning graphic design, digital design, front-end HTML and CSS, paid media, SEO, user journeys and conversion improvement. From October 2026, AI SEO and generative engine optimisation (GEO) became a major focus of his work.
With approximately 29 years of experience as of October 2026, Gareth brings a practical understanding of how design, technology and marketing work together.
Early design career
Gareth began his design career at Newsquest in 1997, progressing from junior to midweight designer during his time there, which continued until 2001. He created advertisements for local newspapers and designed complete publications, developing strong skills in editorial design, magazine layout and page composition.
He went on to work for agencies and as a freelancer before establishing Creative Sauce Advertising in 2005, a small studio in Hayes, Bromley.
The studio primarily produced automotive press advertising for national and local newspapers, including placements in The Sun and the Mirror. The work developed his experience in creating clear commercial messages for large audiences.
Automotive design and brand experience
Gareth has worked on major automotive brands, including Mercedes-Benz and Piaggio, designing point-of-sale (POS) materials, press advertisements, posters and brochures. His work followed each brand's visual identity and brand guidelines across the different formats.
This experience included presenting automotive finance and payment offers, with the accompanying small print and finance copy prepared in line with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) advertising requirements applicable at the time. It combined creative design with attention to detail in the presentation of financial information.
Transition to digital
In 2009 the business moved from the studio model towards digital design and website work. Creative Sauce Advertising Limited became Design Animal Limited on 28 November 2009. Gareth learned front-end HTML and CSS during this transition. His practical background therefore includes both visual design and implementing web interfaces.
Marketing specialisms
Gareth began working with Google Ads and SEO around 2011, and advertising on Meta's platforms in 2016. Around 2020, the Byte Digital brand brought broader marketing and website services together.
His experience spans ecommerce, healthcare and automotive advertising, including the presentation of automotive finance and payment offers. The project directory shows how Byte combines these skills across client assignments.
AI SEO and GEO from October 2026
Gareth brings his creative background in design, practical development skills and strategic marketing experience together in one approach to AI SEO and GEO. The commercial objective is to help potential customers discover and understand a business when they ask AI assistants for information or recommendations.
His work explores the frontier of AI search through hands-on experimentation with emerging tools, ideas and creative ways to organise and communicate business information. He considers the questions customers ask, the evidence that makes a business relevant and how content, design and technical implementation can work together to support discovery.
Byte's company knowledge base is a practical expression of this thinking. The Byte website case study documents the implementation, while the AI search observation log records dated examples of recommendations and citations. These observations inform ongoing improvements.
Byte believes it was the first company to publish this type of dedicated knowledge base alongside its commercial website. Its project statement welcomes dated earlier examples, and its publication record includes a verified Bitcoin-backed timestamp for the preserved material.
This combination of creative exploration, strategic planning and practical delivery shapes Byte's AI search optimisation service.

Approach to marketing and websites
Gareth's background connects the advert or search result that brings a visitor to a site with the experience that follows. Design, messaging, navigation and technical implementation all influence whether the next step is clear. Commercial evaluation connects enquiries, suitable opportunities and sales with the work that supports them.
This is reflected in the library's articles on websites and creative, paid media, AI SEO and GEO and measurement.
